Nebraska Solar Tour

Held in conjunction with the American Solar Energy Society National Solar Tour date, the NSES hosted the first statewide solar tour in Nebraska on October 3, 2009. With 14 sites in 6 locations, it was a great start in networking Nebraska with solar energy education and providing educational materials from the ASES to the public across the state.

The solar tour this year will be held on October 2nd. The Nebraska solar tour this year is a scaled down event from last year, with a single tour in Omaha. The solar tour coincides this year with the Omaha Green Home Tour, sponsored by the Green Omaha Coalition, the USGBC Flatwater Chapter, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha, who is celebrating its support of the tour with a "Green Homecoming" theme. The Nebraska Solar Energy Society, organizers for the Nebraska Solar Tour, are planning the Omaha part of the National Solar Tour with the Green Omaha Coalition, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. The festivities for the day will begin at the new College of Business Administration building, the LEED Silver Certified Mammal Hall, on the UNO South Campus. www.nebraskasolartour.org

Events start at 8:30 AM, with the home tours starting at 9 AM and 1 PM.

The morning Green Home Tour will be a tour of retrofitted homes for energy efficiency, and the Net Zero Energy Home just off the South UNO Campus. For further details on the Green Home: http://www.greenomahacoalition.org/

The afternoon Nebraska Solar Tour will be a tour of two homes with specific solar design features and a showing of the new 1.4 million dollar renewable energy installation on the Creighton University Campus, featuring the largest PV solar installation in the state. There are three installation sites on campus, and we will have a lecture with Dr. Michael Cherney, who is leading the program at Creighton, followed by a walking tour of the sites on campus.
