POWER SUPPLY USE,
GENERAL DESCRIPTION

SPECIFICATIONS

***NOTE***: Novice students should follow the following instructions unless otherwise advised differently by a Lab Instructor or a Lab manual.

This power supply is very simple and easy to use.
It has 3 power supplies, one fixed and two are variable. The 5V supply is fixed and the other two are variable from 0-20V.
Each supply has two terminals, one red(positive) and one black(negative).

CONNECTING YOUR PROJECT TO THE POWER SUPPLY

Caution: Make sure power is off before making any connections. If using the variable supplies, turn both the voltage and current to minimal positions(full counter clockwise or to the left). Do not connect any part of you project to the green terminal which is power supply chassis ground.

When connecting your project to the fixed 5V, connect the red terminal to the positive portion of your project and the black terminal to your negative(or ground) side of your project.

*NOTE* You want to be cautious of polarity, if hooked up wrong, you might burn up parts.

After verifying connections turn on power.

If you are using the variable supplies, do the following in order.
1. With no equipment connected, turn on power, adjust the voltage to the desired value, shut off power.
2. Now adjust the current limiting control to maximum counter-clockwise position.

*NOTE* You always want to use the least amount of current needed, that's why you start with the current in the maximum counter clockwise position.

3. After verifying connections, you can turn on power.
4. The overload light will glow if excessive current is drawn. In that case turn current Knob slowly (clockwise)until the current light goes out and stays out during normal operation. Refer to lab assistant if you have problems.

POWER SUPPLY CONTROLS

1. Power switch. Toggles power on and off.
2. Current Overload indicator. Indicates that the project is trying to draw more current from the left power supplies than they are adjusted for.
3.Current Overload indicator. Indicates that the project is trying to draw more current from the right power supply than it is adjusted for.
4. Volt-Current switch. Control whether Voltage or Current is currently being displayed on the left meter.
5. Volt-Current switch. Control weather Voltage or Current is currently being displayed on the right meter.
6. Fixed 5V terminals.
7. Fixed 0-20V Terminals.
8. Fixed 0-20V Terminals
9. Voltage control knob. Controls voltage on the left 0-20V power supply.
10. Voltage control knob. Controls voltage on the right 0-20V power supply.
11. Current control knob. Controls current on the left 0-20V power supply.
12. Current control knob. Controls current on the right 0-20V power supply.

13. Left Meter. Reads Volts or Current Depending on setting.
14. Right Meter. Reads Volts or Current Depending on setting.
15. Chassis Ground. Power Supply Chassis Ground.
