When students begin their college careers they need to be a step ahead, especially when every step counts. Our freshman program offers just that - a step towards success.
How will this program help you generate success for your college career? Get a jump on networking with your classmates, faculty and staff. Receive valuable pointers and tips from current students and faculty and learn about resources specifically useful to your studies. Have fun while joining in challenging team-building activities with your classmates that are truly inspirational.
Since the inaugural CEEN freshman program, it has been installed as a permanent fixture for both CEEN undergraduate programs - Computer Engineering and Electronics Engineering. Its success and popularity among new CEEN students have caused the program to branch college-wide.

Welcome to Parents of Prospective Students
As parents you are concerned about the successful transition of your children to university life. Our primary goal is the successful education and personal growth of all our students and this philosophy is shared by all our faculty and staff. The CEEN department is one of the very few engineering programs in the United States with a freshman retention program which is designed to maximize the likelihood of success for your children. We are the department which has initiated a freshman summer camp (and is now college wide) to have entering students to get to know one another and to meet their future teachers before the start of courses. Ours is the only program in the country where all freshman students are divided into small groups known as "pods" which meet on a regular basis with a senior student in CEEN who himself/herself was a former pod member. Each senior pod leader provides ongoing guidance to assist your child with making a successful transition. We also have class tutors who are available on a regular basis to answer technical questions. In addition we have a Counseling Assistant "CA" who serves as our coordinator and is responsible for the well being of all the freshman students. The CA has been the "go to" person and friend to all our entering freshman students for several years.
Your child will be further stimulated by an innovative hands-on educational robot called the CEENBoT which begins with the very first course in the program. The educational robot platform was designed by CEEN senior students to replace the TekBots and incorporates a number of innovative design concepts which are unique to ECE education. The CEENBoT accompanies the student throughout their program of study and with each course their robot will be augmented. We believe learning is reinforced by "doing". Your child will be encouraged to explore beyond the classroom with such features as Wednesday night grab bag designs sponsored by the student professional society IEEE and with taking individual study projects to pursue undergraduate research. The CEENBoT is an example of a very successful undergraduate research project which is about to have an impact on the national stage in K-12 education. To create leaders in their post graduate professional careers we encourage our students to become active members of their class community which begins in the freshman year and culminates in their senior year by becoming mentors and tutors to the entering freshman class.
